Self-Mastery - You Are What You Eat

I stumbled across the word "self-mastery" the other day. First reaction? It sounded like something an arrogant city boy might say. I read on, had a think, then decided I would give it a go. It is not as easy as I thought, but hey... since when has anything worthwhile been easy?

So what made this so different to every other "spark of inspiration"? You know those sparks when something just clicks, makes sense and a new neural pathway opens up (I'm no neurologist but it is what I have been told).

If I provide an insight into my day it will explain better...

You see first thing in the morning I have to open my bedroom door. Tough start to the day I know. It's not my door, it's Zig Ziglar's. I watched a DVD of his and started to put to work the Zig Ziglar profile. Like the best ideas, its is very simple. Zig has a list of the characteristics top businessmen consider vital to getting ahead in life. I read it out loud with believe and conviction.... I work to make each one better everyday.

Next task. Easy. I spend the day with Jim Rohn. Jim and I are great friends (I've never met him but has has helped me lots). He taught me short, medium and long term goals. Today's goal might be going for a run then writing an article.. I love working on these tasks and what's more - they offer a lot of self-satisfaction.

I am sure you get the idea. However the bain of my life, the biggest stumbling block... Can you guess it......

That's right - Diet. For myself - a perfect diet would be true mark of Self-Mastery. We'll ignore abstinence for the time being. The only time my diet is really good is when I'm cutting weight for a competition.

A good diet is not a new concept and let's be honest, we all know what we should and should not eat. The benefits of a good diet are well documented, widely accepted and greatly outweigh the short term pleasure of junk food.

A few years back I read "Fit for Life" a great book on diet. It is all about food combining and what we should and should not eat. The general jist is to eat foods as natural as possible with correct food combining. It makes absolute sense.

My own personal goal is to follow a "raw food diet". Eating the food the earth produced. I'll be honest, it is really tough and I struggle. So I am easing myself in with a great alternative....

It is the "Low GI Diet". That means it keeps your sugar levels constant using well balanced, low GI (glycaemic index) foods. Low GI Diets are widely promoted as the "anti-diabetes" diet. I have seen the effects of diabetes and diabetic leg ulcers first hand. The diabetes precursor "Syndrome X" is on the increase so we all need to take heed.

This morning I struggling. I'm looking for motiviation, something to keep me on-track. I open a book and I read "Look after your body, it is the only place you can live". Another Jim Rohn classic.

Wow, it shook me.

To keep on track I decided to enroll on a course through Success University. It is by Dr Wayne Pickering, the Ambassador for Health. He shared the next bombshell....

"Be the healthiest man on the planet, not the wealthiest man in the grave".

If I was not convinced the first time, now there was no doubt in my mind.

So guess what? It inspired me to write this. A dream is just a dream until it is writen down. Instead of writing it down I am sharing it with the world. I have to do it. All eyes are on me...

Be good, Eat well
